Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Modesto, CA - Joey Wong's two-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Modesto Nuts a 3-2 walk-off win over the Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday night at John Thurman Field.
Austin Gallagher's two-run single put the Quakes on the board and tied the game in the top of the ninth, but the Nuts rallied just minutes later, keeping Rancho from winning a second straight game in Modesto.
Trailing 2-0 in the top of the ninth inning, Joc Pederson walked with one out, then moved to third on a single by Bobby Coyle. Gallagher followed with a liner to right-center field, plating both Pederson and Coyle to even the game at 2-2 against eventual winner Nick Schnaitmann (3-4).
Quakes' reliever Yimi Garcia, making his Quakes' debut on Wednesday, struck out the side in the eighth inning. After retiring the first two hitters in the ninth though, things got rough, as Garcia (0-1) allowed a single to Juan Crousset, walked Cristhian Adames, then surrendered the game-winning hit to Wong.
Quakes' starter Angel Sanchez turned in a quality start, but came away with the no-decision. Sanchez gave up back-to-back hits with two outs in the second, as Modesto scored a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead. Sanchez would settled down, allowing just the two runs on five hits over six innings.
Modesto starter Christian Bergman also took a no-decision, as he shut down the Quakes over six innings, scattering six hits.
The Quakes out-hit the Nuts by a wide margin at 12-7, but stranded 14 men on base over nine innings of work.
Rancho (19-26, 56-59) will go with JonMichael Redding (7-5) on Thursday in the series-finale. The Nuts will counter with Juan Gonzalez (5-11), with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm from John Thurman Field in Modesto.
The Quakes return to The Epicenter on Friday, August 10th, opening a three-game home stand against the Storm. Friday will be another Family RV $1 Family Feast Night, as all hot dogs, Pepsi products and ice cream sandwiches will be just $1 throughout the night. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
