Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Modesto, CA - The Quakes' offense struggled for a second straight night, as the Modesto Nuts won for the second straight game, giving them two of three in the series with a 6-1 win over the Quakes on Thursday night at John Thurman Field.

Quakes' starter JonMichael Redding (7-6) turned in a quality start, but got little run-support, as the Quakes were held to just one run on eight hits, one night after being shut out over the first eight innings in a 3-2 loss on Wednesday.

Bobby Coyle homered in the first inning, his seventh, giving Rancho a temporary 1-0 lead against Modesto starter Juan Gonzalez (6-11).

That lead was short-lived though, as an error opened the door in the bottom of the first inning, with Tim Smalling reaching and then scoring on a two-out triple off the bat of Kyle Parker, tying the game at 1-1.

Modesto took the lead for good in the second, as Jayson Langfels doubled and later scored on an RBI double by Rafael Ortega, putting Modesto up 2-1.

Redding gave up his final run in the fifth, as a two-out walk came around to score on an RBI single by Langfels, making it a 3-1 advantage.

Freddie Cabrera was touched for three runs in the seventh, highlighted by a two-run shot from Juan Crousset, as Modesto capped the scoring at 6-1.

The Quakes put three men on base over the final three innings, but Modesto reliever Craig Bennigson worked three scoreless frames to earn his first save of the year.

After a 3-3 road trip, the Quakes (20-26, 57-59) are back on home on Friday night, sending Brandon Martinez (4-3) to the mound against Storm righthander Matt Andriese (8-7) at 7:05pm.

Friday will be another Family RV $1 Family Feast Night at The Epicenter, as all hot dogs, Pepsi products and ice cream sandwiches will be just $1 throughout the night. Friday is also Faith Night, with national recording artist Eddie Gilbert performing during the evening. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
