Modesto, CA. - Brandon Bednar sunk the Modesto Nuts, 3-2, with a walk -off single for the San Jose Giants on Wednesday night at Municipal Stadium.
Jacob Newberry (L, 1-1) gave up a one-out double to Tyler Horan in the ninth. With two outs, Brandon Bednar cracked a RBI single into center to win the game for the Giants (71-64; 41-24).
The Nuts (66-69; 33-32) had their chances early. Raimel Tapia clubbed a home run in the third. Drew Weeks added a RBI single in the fourth, but the Nuts stranded seven baserunners and went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
Ian Gardeck (W, 2-5) shutdown the end of the game with two perfect frames.
Tyler Chatwood tossed two innings and allowed one run in a big league rehab. Zach Jemiola worked five innings and struck out six out of the bullpen and allowed just two hits.
The Nuts will try to avoid the sweep on Thursday night in the finale of a three-game series. First pitch is at 7:00 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:55 p.m.
