Modesto Nuts News Release

Modesto, CA. - The Nuts bats were quiet for six innings against lefty Matt Lujan and the Giants in a 7-3 loss on Tuesday night at John Thurman Field.

Matt Lujan (W, 2-0), in his second California League start for the Giants (6-6, 40-42), cruised through the first six innings by striking out seven and walking none. Mike Tauchman clubbed a solo home run in the third for the Nuts (4-8, 27-55). In the seventh, Lujan couldn't quite polish off his gem. Jordan Ribera ripped a double to start the inning. Derek Jones followed by mashing a ball to center for a RBI triple. Jones scored on Sean Dwyer's sac fly. After giving up a two-out single, Lujan was removed after 6.2 innings of work.

Jayson Aquino (L, 2-5) was tagged for two runs in the first inning. In the fifth, he surrendered a RBI fielder's choice before he exited the game with the bases loaded. Alving Mejias was the first out of the bullpen. The righty hit Shawn Payne to bring one run in before giving up a two-out, two-RBI single to Trevor Brown. Aquino was hit for six runs. He walked four and gave up five hits.

The second game of the three-game set pits Nuts' righty Ben Alsup against Giants right-hander Joe Biagini. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m.
