Clearwater Threshers News Release

DUNEDIN, Fla.- Miguel Nunez bounced back after a rough outing his last time out, but the Clearwater Threshers were unable to keep the Dunedin Blue Jays off the board late, falling 5-4 on Sunday afternoon.

Nunez had a better outing than his stat line showed, going 6.2 innings while allowing four runs on six hits. He was able to get ahead of Dunedin hitters, and keep his pitch count down, throwing just 87 during his outing.

Dunedin (18-5) scored the first run of the game off of Nunez in the third inning when Jorge Flores scored on a Dalton Pompey single.

Clearwater (5-18) responded by putting up three runs in the fourth inning, all with two-out singles.

KC Serna had a one-out single, but was erased after Pete Lavin grounded into a fielder's choice on a sacrifice attempt.

The hit parade started with Harold Martinez driving a ball to right field to give the Threshers runners at first and second.

Art Charles followed with an RBI single to center that plated Lavin and put runners at the corners. Charles would have three hits on the day, snapping an 0-for-8 skid heading into the game.

Nick Ferdinand singled to right to drive in Martinez and move Charles over to third before Gabriel Lino singled home Charles to give the Threshers a 3-1 advantage.

Dunedin would respond with runs in the fifth and sixth to tie the game at three before Lino sent a blast over the left-field wall for his first home run in a Threshers uniform, giving Clearwater the 4-3 edge.

Nunez was lifted after allowing a two-out double to Pompey in the seventh inning, with the Threshers holding onto the one-run lead.

Lee Ridenhour gave up the tying run when Kevin Patterson drove home Pompey with a triple to center, and allowed Patterson to score on a wild pitch to Marcus Knecht to give the D'Jays a 5-4 lead.

The Threshers threatened again in the ninth when Lino reached on an error by shortstop Emilio Guerrero, but pinch runner Justin Parr was erased on a double play one batter later. Angelo Mora then grounded out to third to end the game.

The Threshers will head home to take on the Brevard County Manatees Monday night for the first of a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game can be heard on threshersbaseball.com starting at 6:45 p.m. with Threshers Live! the pregame show.
