NSC Minnesota Stars Preparing to Sign Players
February 17, 2011 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
Minnesota United FC News Release
BLAINE, Minn. (February 17, 2011) -- With the ownership transition from the National Sports Center to the North American Soccer League complete and the NASL sanctioned to compete in 2011, the NSC Minnesota Stars are ready to begin signing and re-signing players for the upcoming season. The team will host an invitational combine March 2-4 and already have some invited trialists working out with the team.
The NASL wasn't formally sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation until after the Annual General Meeting last weekend, a delay that hindered the finalization of contract terms and language as the Stars did not want to bind players to the team without a proper league. The change in ownership also provided a hurdle for signings, but with the NASL now controlling the team through a newly established company, MN Stars Holdings LLC, the Stars are now in a position to begin formally signing players.
"Obviously, we've faced some roadblocks to this point, but with the NASL investing in our team and players and standing behind us, I believe players carried over from 2010 will honor their contracts, just like in Carolina," said Manny Lagos, Stars head coach and director of soccer operations, referencing a similar situation in Carolina that has seen the RailHawks change hands at a critical time.
Season tickets are now available for the Stars' 2011 NASL season. Adult tickets start at $135 for general admission seats. General admission seats for youth age 17 and under are only $75. Tickets are available by calling (763) 792-7355.
