BLAINE, Minn. (March 23, 2011) - Snow in the Twin Cities has prompted the NSC Minnesota Stars to cancel their preseason friendly match with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Badgers. The game was scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at McMurray Fields in St. Paul, but with several inches of snow having already fallen in the area and no thaw in the immediate forecast, the two teams have agreed to cancel the match.
The Stars will instead have the weekend off after a full week of training. Head coach Manny Lagos welcomed Stars fans to come to the National Sports Center for a split-squad scrimmage indoors on Friday at 8 a.m.
"We live in a climate where this kind of weather can come up. We're looking forward to an intense intrasquad scrimmage on Friday, and we'll adjust our schedule for next week accordingly as we get ready for the Fire the next weekend," Lagos said. The Stars take on Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire in Chicago on Saturday, April 2.
The Stars begin their 2011 North American Soccer League season April 9 with a road match against the Atlanta Silverbacks. The Stars' home opener is April 30 at 7:30 p.m. against the Carolina RailHawks. Season tickets start at $135 for adult general admission or $75 for youth age 17 or younger and are available by calling (763) 792-7355 or visiting NSCMinnesotaTickets.com. Single-game tickets are also on sale now with prices starting at $12 for adults, $6 for youth.
