Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Waterloo Black Hawks evened their second round Clark Cup Playoff Series against the Tri-City Storm with a 3-1 Game Two win in Kearney, Nebraska on Saturday.
Saturday's decision yielded a split in the opening weekend of games between the teams after the Storm had prevailed 4-0 in Game One Friday.
At the 3:11 mark of Game Two, Ben Newhouse sent a shot from the right point past Jake Kielly. It proved to be the only goal during the first 20 minutes, as the Hawks outshot the Storm 12-7.
Tri-City evened the count on a give-and-go between Carson Meyer and Jake Wahlin at 9:03 of the second. Meyer finished the passing sequence by lifting a shot over Cale Morris' right shoulder. Waterloo went back to the lead at 17:47; Yuri Terao fired a chance from the left wing circle which deflected high into the air, and Zach Yon stepped to the netmouth to keep the puck alive when it came down. Terao then knocked a second chance across the goal line.
Cale Morris denied a Wade Allison breakaway during a Storm power play with 5:30 remaining in regulation, turning aside the best of Tri-City's eight bids to tie it during the final frame. Morris ended the night with 32 saves on 33 total Storm shots. Nick Swaney ended any doubt about the outcome with 6.9 seconds to go, scoring into an empty net from center.
