Noviskey powers Captains to win

(Charleston, WV)--Captains catcher Josh Noviskey homered and drove in five runs Saturday night, leading Lake County to a 10-5 win over the West Virginia Power at Appalachian Power Park.

Noviskey drove in two runs with a double off Dave Johnson (0-1) during a four-run first inning. The Captains also got RBI singles from Matt Whitney and Mike Butia in the frame to take a 4-0 lead.

The Power (16-33) scored three first-inning runs off starter T.J. Burton, who was pressed into action when scheduled starter Justin Hoyman was scratched during warmups.

The Captains blew the game open in the fifth, scoring five runs on four hits, including a three-run homer by Noviskey, his second homer of the year. Argenis Reyes added a two-run double to put the Captains up 10-5.

Righthander Brandon Rickert (2-0) earned the win after taking over for Burton in the fourth. Rickert, who picked up his first win of the year on Thursday against the Power, worked two innings and gave up one run on a homer by West Virginia's Josh Murray.

The Captains had a depleted bullpen stemming from Thursday's 15-inning game, and they were forced to use utility infielder Jose Ortega on the mound for the second time this season. Ortega turned in two innings, and allowed only one unearned run.

The Captains will wrap-up the series against the Power with a game on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 (WELW AM 1330).
