Northern Arizona Wranglers Sign Running Back Jawon Hamilton

Hamilton, 5'9", 200 lbs., will be seeing his first game action, in the Indoor Football League, with the Wranglers. Hamilton finished his collegiate career at Eastern Michigan University, which is in Ypsilanti, Mich. In his four seasons at the college level, Hamilton rushed for 2,680 yards and 20 touchdowns. Hamilton averaged 5.2 yards per carry when toting the rock in college. In addition to his success running the football, Hamilton also hauled in 38 receptions for 240 yards and one touchdown. In addition, Hamilton was an asset on special teams, as he returned 35 kicks for 848 yards and one touchdown.

Hamilton began his collegiate journey at the University of Central Florida, in Orlando, Fla., and played there for one season. Hamilton transferred to James Madison University, located in Harrisonburg, Va., before spending his senior year at Eastern Michigan. When at James Madison, Hamilton broke the school record for the longest rushing touchdown, with his 99-yard score in the first round of the FCS Playoffs. Hamilton was recognized in 2018 as an All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) kick returner. Hamilton also earned a spot on the Third Team All-CAA squad as a running back in both 2019 and 2020. Prior to spending his final season of eligibility at Eastern Michigan, Hamilton graduated from James Madison with his bachelor's degree in sociology.

Hamilton is originally from Miami, Fla., where he attended South Dade High School. Hamilton earned the Miami-Dade County Player of the Year, as a senior in high school. When discussing his early inspiration to play football, Hamilton stated, "I always wanted to put my family in a better situation. I developed a love for the game when I was young, and wanted to do better for my family." Hamilton's early inspiration remains true today. When discussing what drives him to continue playing football, Hamilton said, "I love the game, football has always been my sport, and I want to take it to the highest level possible." Hamilton expanded on this by stating, "I have a one-year-old daughter now, I want to accomplish everything I can for her."

When addressing Wranglers Nation, Hamilton stated, "I am excited for an opportunity to contribute to what the Wranglers have already built, and win another championship." Hamilton expanded on this by saying, "For me, this is the first step to doing something big. I am thankful for [Head Coach] Les Moss bringing me in, I am going to help contribute in every way possible." Hamilton expressed that he is excited to get started with training camp and is "ready to go."
