Northern Arizona Wranglers Sign Linebacker Shanon Reid

Reid joins the Wranglers for his first season in the Indoor Football League. Reid began his collegiate career at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn. Reid spent three seasons with the Volunteers, prior to 2021 when he transferred to Illinois State University in Normal, Ill. Reid was the team leader in tackles at Illinois State in 2021, he also earned himself an All-Missouri Valley Conference Honorable Mention.

Reid received his bachelor's degree in science from Illinois State University before playing his final season of eligibility at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas. Reid was a force on the Mustangs defense, totaling the fourth most tackles on the team. Reid earned the recognition of the SMU Special Teams Player of the Year in 2022. Between his last two seasons in college, Reid racked up 142 total tackles, 12 passes defended, four and a half tackles for loss, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, one and a half sacks, and one forced fumble.

Reid is originally from Fort Myers, Fla., where he attended Dunbar High School. Reid was originally inspired to play football due to the city he grew up in. Reid explained by stating, "I always loved the sport of football, there were many legacies (through playing football) built from Fort Myers, and seeing their paths made me want to create my own." Reid expanded on this by saying, "I wanted to create the path for the younger generation of players from Fort Myers, guys that used to play tell me that they appreciate me and are living their dreams through me."

As far as what continues to drive Reid to continue playing football, it's his confidence in his ability as a player, and trusting what God has in store for him. Reid explained when by stating, "I have always had that drive to play football, I stay patient and trust the process. I know that my time is coming, and God always has a blessing for me in store, even if I don't see it at the time." Reid added to this by saying, "I have always wanted to live in Arizona, and I am excited to show what I can do on film and display my talents as a player."

When asked about what he is looking forward to about joining the Wranglers, Reid stated, "I am excited about learning a new version of the game, Indoor Football is a way quicker and I am looking forward to adapting and building relationships within the IFL.

What can Wranglers fans expect from Reid on the field? Reid stated, "The fans can expect an electric player who always wants to hit somebody, I will always be around the ball." Reid also stated, "I am a reaction player on the field, I don't overthink and want to bring speed to the Indoor game." Reid closed his thoughts by stating, "I am a versatile linebacker who will take on any role that will best help the team, as well as put me in the best position to get on the field to make plays."
