Northern Arizona Wranglers News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Wranglers welcome defensive back Bill Atkins, to Northern Arizona, for the 2022 season.
Atkins (6'0", 195 lbs.) is originally from Hopkins, Minn., where he played football at Hopkins High School. Atkins earned himself a full-ride football scholarship to play football, in his home state, at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Atkins played the safety position, for the Bulldogs, for three seasons, after he decided to redshirt during his freshman year.
Atkins had a great career for the Bulldogs, leading them as a team captain, in 2019, during his senior year. During that season, Atkins posted 47 tackles, three-and-a-half tackles for loss, and one interception that he returned for a 76-yard touchdown. As a senior, Atkins was an honorable mention for the Dan Hansen All-American Team, and he also participated in the College Gridiron Showcase in Fort Worth, Texas. In his junior season, Atkins was named to the All-Conference Team. That season, Atkins notched 55 tackles, which was the second most on the team.
Atkins received his bachelor's degree, from the University of Minnesota Duluth, in Kinesiology: Exercise Science.
As an only child growing up, Atkins cites his inspiration to play football as wanting to be a part of something external. During his childhood, Atkins played many sports, such as basketball, wrestling, karate, and of course, football. Football was the sport that he stuck with, and both he and the Wranglers are happy that he did.
Atkins states that he is "super excited to get started," and adds by saying, "I am thankful for the opportunity that I have been given to play." Atkins has never visited the state of Arizona before, but has always wanted to. Atkins is hoping to make a huge impact on the team as soon as he gets to Prescott Valley, Ariz.
