North Carolina FC News Release
CARY, N.C. - North Carolina Football Club will honor club legends Kupono Low and Tiyi Shipalane with a special ceremony during halftime of the NCFC-New York Red Bulls II match, presented by Aetna, on Oct. 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Sahlen's Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park.
Both Low and Shipalane are among the most accomplished and recognizable players in club history, with the two featuring throughout the NCFC record books.
Low, who played for the then-Carolina RailHawks from 2007-16, scored the first goal in club history on April 21, 2007, against the Minnesota Thunder. The longest-tenured player in club history, Low ranks first in career appearances (229), minutes played (19,779) and fourth in assists (14). Low, known to many as "Mr. RailHawk," was a 2007 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Semifinalist and played a key role in the club's three victories over the LA Galaxy from 2012-14.
In 2012, Low was named the NASL Defensive Player of the Year and was also included in the 2011 NASL Best XI.
One of the most entertaining and explosive offensive playmakers to ever feature for the club, Shipalane scored the second-most goals (34) in team history from 2010-18, while recording a club-best 23 assists. Like Low, Shipalane was instrumental in the RailHawks' Open Cup successes from 2012-14, scoring in wins against the Galaxy in 2012 and Chivas USA in 2013. Called the "Human Highlight Reel" by fans because of his creativity with the ball at his feet, Shipalane made the second-most appearances in club history (196) and his 12,450 minutes played rank as the fourth-most by an NCFC player.
NCFC returns home to host Ottawa Fury FC on Sat., Sept. 28 at 7:00 p.m. ET. For tickets and information, please visit NorthCarolinaFC.com or call the Coastal Credit Union Box Office at 919-459-8144.
