North Carolina FC News Release

CARY, NC - North Carolina FC fell to South Georgia Tormenta FC on Saturday evening, the match result decided by a late goal from Tormenta's Arthur Bosua in the 83rd minute of play. Garrett McLaughlin added his fourth goal of the season in tonight's match and currently leads the USL League One Golden Boot race, and Oalex Anderson recorded his second consecutive match with a goal and an assist. Tormenta's Kazaiah Sterling and Barry Sharifi each scored goals in the first half to contribute to the Georgia side's victory.

"Oalex is playing the way that we felt he was going to be able to play, especially in this system with [Garrett] up top that can take some of the pressure away from him," said Head Coach John Bradford following the match. "[Moving forward], I think we have to get better at what we do well, and continue to find things that we're still falling short on and be able to improve on those. I think the opportunity to play Greenville and play Richmond over the next few weeks at home should encourage the guys to be able to quickly turn this around and get things going back in the right direction."

McLaughlin opened the scoring for NCFC, getting on the receiving end of a cross from Anderson, whose breaking dribble down the left sideline catalyzed the scoring play. With his first touch, McLaughlin was able to slip a shot past Tormenta goalkeeper Pablo Jara and into the lower 90, providing the North Carolina side with a 1-0 edge. Tormenta answered in the 31st minute, with Sterling recording the equalizer. Barry Sharifi added the Georgia side's second goal of the night ten minutes later, the first half concluding shortly after.

Eager to erase the 2-1 deficit, Anderson added a goal of his own in the 59th minute. Raheem Somersall added the assist, sending a leading through ball into the Tormenta box. With a defender on his back, Anderson tucked a shot at the far post to equalize for the home side, 2-2. Despite several chances to take back the lead as the second half wore on, it was Bosua that tallied the go-ahead goal in the 83rd minute as Tormenta collected three points.

North Carolina FC will look to return to the win column against the Greenville Triumph next Saturday, May 21 at 7 p.m. ET as they continue their regular season campaign at WakeMed Soccer Park.
