North Carolina Courage Announces Scott Vallow as Assistant Coach

Cary, NC (February 14, 2017)- The North Carolina Courage announced today that Scott Vallow has been named an assistant coach of the NC Courage ahead of the 2017 NWSL Season.

"I'm very thankful to the organization for the opportunity, and I'm really excited to be a part of such an awesome team that is coming from Western New York," Vallow said. "The roster is filled with great soccer players and great people, and we picked up some great additions. I'm really excited to get there and get started."

Vallow was a member of the Championship-winning 2016 Western New York Flash (now North Carolina Courage) coaching staff and helped lead the team to its 3-2 win over the Washington Spirit in penalty kicks.

"Scott has been a tremendous asset to the club and to bring him to North Carolina provides the team with a consistency of technical staff and a right hand man who is soccer savvy, knowledgeable, well loved and a superb human," said Riley. "He is a workaholic, and our relationship is built on camaraderie, humor and ability to motivate our team day in day out. Fantastic to have him with the Courage, and I look forward to once again working with a great football professional."

The California native played collegiately at Bowling Green University, where he made 85 starts as the team's goalkeeper and was a member of the 1995 and 1996 teams that advanced to the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA Championship.

After his collegiate career, Vallow went on to have a successful career with the Rochester Rhinos. There, Vallow brought the team to the 2000 Championship, and he was also named the A-League Goalkeeper of the Year. Overall, Vallow made 167 appearances with the team as he was there from 2000-2002 and 2005-2010.

Vallow started his coaching career in 2011 after he retired from his playing days with the Raging Rhinos. He joined the coaching staff of the Flash and remained there until 2013. Next, he returned to the Rhinos, this time as an assistant coach, for the 2014 season.

In 2015, Vallow was an assistant coach with Portland Thorns FC before returning to the Flash for the 2016 season. Now, he is looking forward to the upcoming NWSL season.

"One of the main reasons I'm so excited is because of the facilities," Vallow said. "They are top-notch. The fan base was pretty crazy when I played there, so I'm excited to be a part of women's soccer coming back to the Triangle. I'm looking forward to putting a great product on the field that the fans can be proud of."
