North Carolina Aggies Join the Tobs
Wilson, NC - On the heels of three local Barton student-athletes joining the Tobs this summer, four more North Carolina products will stay in the Tarheel state this summer. North Carolina A&T will be sending Junior RHPs Marcello Betances and Noah Dyals to suit up for the black and gold, as well as Sophomore OF Dawnoven Smith and Junior 3B AJ Hunt.
Betances, a Junior from Raleigh, NC, joined the Aggies this season after spending his first two collegiate seasons at perennial junior college power Louisburg Community College. The 6'2" arm has started and appeared in nine games on the bump and posted a 3-3 record. The capital city native currently leads his team in total strikeouts (40 K's in 45.2 IP).
Wilson Tobs skipper for the 2017 campaign, Aaron Lynch, had this to say about Betances "We are thrilled to be welcoming in Marcello to our staff this summer."
The other power arm making the trek to Wilson this summer, Noah Dyals, is a Junior transfer by way of Eastern Florida State. The closer is originally from Tampa, Florida, but has found a nice home at the back end of the bullpen for the Aggies. In six appearances, Dyals has collected 5 saves in his 19 IP and currently leads the team in ERA (.47), K/9 (8,53), and batting average against (.138).
"Noah's numbers speak for themselves. He is going to make an immediate impact in our bullpen and are looking forward to adding Dyals to the back end of our bullpen."
The third product making his way to Fleming Stadium this season is Sophomore OF Dawnoven Smith (Jacksonville, NC). Starting in 20 of 25 games this season for the Aggies, Smith has seen consistent playtime in the field, hitting .270 to go along with 9 RBIs and 16 runs scored. During the 2016 campaign for NC A&T, Smith batted .270 with 23 RBI to go along with 9 XBH and 4 HRs (t-2nd on the team).
Lynch had this to say when asked about Smith, "With the addition of Dawnoven this year, our outfield will be even deeper than in was in 2016."
The final Aggie making his way to Wilson this summer is 3B Perry "AJ" Hunt. A 5'11" Junior by way of Chesapeake, VA, is a catalyst in the NC A&T offense. Hunt currently ranks in the top 5 of several key offensive categories for his squad, batting average (.304, 5th), runs scored (21, 4th), doubles (9, 2nd), homeruns (4, 2nd), and RBIs (24, 2nd).
Wilson Tobs General Manager Mike Bell stated, "The addition of AJ will help bring another power bat as well as a consistent hitter into our already deep lineup for the upcoming season."
