Normal CornBelters Ink Former Chicago White Sox Prospect

Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, have signed former Chicago White Sox prospect Mike Schwartz. He was drafted by the White Sox in the 17th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft. The CornBelters will play their first home game of the 2013 season at The Corn Crib on Tuesday, May 21 at 7 p.m. versus the Windy City ThunderBolts (CEFCU Opening Night)

"Mike will definitely supply left-handed power to our lineup," said CornBelters Player Personnel Director Nick Belmonte, who has now inked five players since re-joining the organization earlier this off-season. "We really like the guys we've secured so far. We're off to a good start."

Before beginning his professional career, Schwartz played collegiately at the University of Tampa (Tampa, FL). Between the Bristol Sox (Rookie - Appalachian League) and Great Falls Voyagers (Rookie - Pioneer League), he appeared in 71 games for the White Sox organization from 2010-2011. Last season, he split time between the Gateway Grizzlies and Road Warriors of the independent Frontier League. As a Road Warrior, he hit .311 with 23 hits, eight RBI and six doubles in 74 at-bats.
