Normal CornBelters Add Youth to Roster

Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, recently signed rookie infielders Gibby Briones and T.J. Gavlik. Briones played collegiately at Campbellsville University (Campbellsville, KY), while Gavlik played collegiately at University of North Florida (Jacksonville, FL). The CornBelters will play their first home game of the 2013 season at The Corn Crib on Tuesday, May 21 at 7 p.m. versus the Windy City ThunderBolts ("CEFCU Opening Night").

"The reports I've gotten from Nick Belmonte [CornBelters Player Personnel Director] have indicated both Gibby and T.J. have a real chance to be impact players in the Frontier League," said Field Manager, Brooks Carey.

In 2012, Briones hit .316 with 43 hits, 25 runs scored, 26 RBI and seven doubles in 44 games for the Tigers. The team finished 37-18 overall, 14-7 in the Mid-South Conference and qualified for the opening round of the NAIA Tournament.

Gavlik hit .239 with 33 hits, 19 runs scored, 14 RBI and five doubles playing in 43 games for the Ospreys in 2012. He was named Atlantic Sun Conference "Player of the Week" on April 9, hitting safely in all four games that week, recording multiple hits and scoring at least one run in each game. During that same time, he also had a season-high three RBI in the Ospreys 10-5 victory over No. 1 University of Florida.

THE NIBLET : The Normal CornBelters recently announced all 96 of their regular season games during the 2013 season will be streaming live online at http://www.995theticket.com. Fox Sports Radio 99.5 FM "The Ticket" also reserves the right to broadcast any games of their choosing live on 99.5 FM. All games will be broadcast by Greg Halbleib, who enters his third season as the CornBelters Radio Broadcaster.
