
Normal CornBelters Add Four to 2015 Roster

NORMAL, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, announced that have signed extensions with pitcher Eric Anderson, outfielder Mark Micowski, infielder Jorge Chavarria, and have signed a contract with pitcher Anthony Kliniske.
In Anderson's first season with the CornBelters, he posted a 2.64 ERA while recording 40 strikeouts in 34 innings. The six-foot-five-inch, Anderson put up a 1-1 record with seven saves. He was just recently selected by Baseball America as the number one unsigned independent league prospect for the 2014 season. A 2014 graduate of the University of Missouri, Anderson saw time as both a pitcher and an outfielder during college.
"Obviously Eric is going to play a huge role on our pitching staff," said CornBelters Field Manager Brooks Carey. "He'll be a guy we lean on a lot to help us win games."
The 2015 season with the CornBelters, will be the fourth year of professional baseball for Micowski and his third in the Frontier League. Micowski appeared in just 29 games last season before ending his season due to an injury. In his limited time, he .301 with eight doubles, three triples and one home run.
In 2013 with the Frontier Greys, he finished second on the team in batting average hitting .284. He was tied for the team high in triples with six and also added 16 doubles, nine home runs and a team high 46 RBI.
"Mark was off to a great start before being injured early in the season. His return is going to be a big boost for our team, both offensively and defensively," said Carey.
The backup middle infielder, Chavarria, appeared in just 12 games for the CornBelters last season. He batted .267 with five RBI and five stolen bases.
"Jorge impressed us a lot during his limited time with us. His versatility will make him a valuable part of our club," said Carey.
Kliniske is a 2012 graduate of North Dakota State University. During his senior season, the right handed pitcher posted a 4.58 ERA while recording ten strikeouts and allowing no home runs in just over 17 innings of work.
"We first saw Aaron at our Cornbelters tryout last May and were very impressed," said Carey. "We're anxious to see him again in spring training."
