Norfolk Tides News Release
Bobby Livingston tossed seven strong innings and Justin Christian clubbed a three-run homer to lead the Tides to a 5-1 win over Toledo Monday night.
Livingston (1-0) was sharp all night long, as he allowed one unearned run on six hits in seven innings of work. The 26-year-old left-hander struck out four without walking a batter, and he's now gone back-to-back starts without allowing an earned run, a stretch spanning 14.0 innings.
Ross Wolf and Chris Ray each tossed a scoreless inning for the Tides, who have now posted a 1.00 ERA during the current six-game homestand (6-ER, 54.0-IP).
Trailing 1-0 in the third inning, Joey Gathright ignited a two-out rally by reaching on an infield single. After Carlos Rojas reached on an error by Brent Dlugach, Christian belted an 0-1 offering from Ruddy Lugo (4-5) into the left field picnic area for his third homer of the season to give Norfolk a 3-1 lead.
The Tides would add a run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Rojas and another in the eighth on back-to-back triples by Christian and Jeff Fiorentino.
Gathright finished with three singles for Norfolk, which improved to 15-4 against the IL West this season.
Norfolk and Toledo will wrap up their eight-game homestand on Tuesday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 12:15. Chris Waters (6-2, 4.07) will look to earn his fifth straight victory for the Tides against Mud Hens left-hander Lucas French (3-3, 3.29).
