Helena Bighorns News Release

The newly crowned Nor-Pac Champion Queen City Cutthroats will be recognized at the final Helena Bighorn game of the season, this Friday at the Helena Ice Arena.

The 2-Time Cascade Cup Champions will be honored between the 1st and 2nd periods of the game and will be on hand all evening to mingle with fans and raise money for their trip to the USA Hockey Silver Cup National Tournament next weekend in Philadelphia, PA. As part of their fundraising efforts, the Cutties will be selling "Chuck-A-Pucks," auctioning off their game jerseys and will have a donation table set up in the arena. According to Cutthroat President, Mike Butters, the staggering cost of going to the national tournament is something that all junior B teams must deal with each year. "The players are raising money to help subsidize the team's cost for airfare, hotel and meals. It is amazing the costs associated with attending a tournament like this and we are hoping that Bighorn fans will support their sister team in their endeavour."

The Northern Pacific Hockey League has estimated the cost of travelling to this tournament at over $22,000.00 and will support the Cutthroats with some of the cost.

Fans wishing to purchase either a game worn jersey or National Guard warm-up jersey can do so at various times during the game, with the majority of jerseys being auctioned off after the Bighorns game. The Helena Bighorns will donate all the proceeds from the Grimes Motors Chuck-A-Puck to help the Cutthroats.

This will also be the last home game for the Bighorns this year and fans wanting to see their favorite players for the last time this year are encouraged to show up. There will be a brief pre-game ceremony to honor the graduating Bighorn players who will be playing their last junior game. The graduating Bighorns are Steve Ebbole, Jeff Olitch, Jeff Diehl, Steve Smiddy, Jake Carlson, Jay Holladay, and captain Anthony Cosmano.

As this will be the last home game for both teams this season, the Bighorns will be holding all sorts of events at the game. The Bighorns season officially comes to an end on Sunday evening with their 5th annual awards banquet held at the Elks Lodge, located directly behind the Helena Ice Arena. Tickets for the banquet are just $12.00 and can be purchased at the game or at the door on Sunday. "We have players who need to be recognized and we would like to invite the public to this fun event," said Butters.
