Fargo-Moorhead Jets News Release
Fargo (ND) As the Fargo-Moorhead Jets go into their final two games of the regular season, a few players have a chance at setting all-time individual records for junior A hockey in the region. The FM Jets travel to Bismarck on Friday and Saturday at 7:05pm to end the regular season, and though the games may turn out to have no barring on the standings, plenty is still at stake.
Third year veteran Bob Preece (Bonita Springs, FL) has used his physical play to become a fan favorite during his stay with the FM Jets, and in the process has accumulated 468 career PIM. This weekend he'll look to set the new area record for most penalty minutes in a career currently held by former FM IceShark Shaun Endres who had 474 PIM from 1996-1998.
This record does include playoff games so even if Preece doesn't break it this weekend, he'll have at least three playoff games to do so.
Rookie sensation Chris Connolly (Duluth, MN) has an outside shot at the single-season assist record. He comes into the weekend with 41 assists. He is currently third on the all-time single season list behind 2003-2004 FM Jet Mark Agnew who had 44, and 1997-1998 FM Ice Shark Tyler Arnason who had 45.
However, unlike the PIM record, this is for regular season production only so Connolly has only this weekend.
Another regular season record is goaltender save percentage and Netminder B.J. O'Brien (Lakeville, MN) has a very good shot at this record. Entering the final weekend O'Brien has a save percentage of .928%, which as of now is the highest save percentage for a goaltender in FM Junior hockey history.
The previous record was a .925% save percentage held by 1997-1998 FM IceShark Kevin O'Malley.
O'Brien is expected to play at least one game this weekend so the record isn't his quite yet.
Finally, there is Phil Fox (Stillwater, MN) who has already etched his name into the record books a few times this season and goes into the final two regular season games looking for one more accomplishment. Fox has 33 goals which is second all-time for goals in a single-season behind only 1997-1998 FM IceShark Tyler Arnason who had 37.
The FM Jets are the 2005 Borne Cup Champions and are in their third season as members of the North American Hockey League. The NAHL is the nation's largest Junior A hockey league and is now in its 30th year of operation.
Jets home games are played at the John E. Carlson Coliseum in Fargo, ND. All games are broadcast at 103.9 THE TRUCK and fmjets.com.
