HERNANDO, Miss. - The Teen Committee for the annual Noah's Gift Memorial 5K Run-Walk-Skate named Nathan Barron and Blake Lowrie as two chairmen of the five-member committee.
Barron is a student at Olive Branch High School and a member of the Interact Club and National Honor Society. He got involved in Noah's Gift after learning about it through DeSoto County Schools' Superintendent's Youth Leadership Council.
"I love the fact that the 5K is completely organized by kids for kids," said Barron. "It is really a great opportunity for youth to engage in the planning process, and the experience will prepare those involved for a life of community-based service."
Lowrie is a student at DeSoto Central High School. He became involved in Noah's Gift because of the unique 5K event and experiences the fund has been able to provide.
"Noah's Gift is exciting because it helps teens not only think outside of the box, but to act outside of the box by funding activities that otherwise would be unattainable," Lowrie said.
In addition to Barron and Lowrie, the Teen Committee will add two additional Chairs and a Secretary to the executive board.
This year's race is on October 26, 2013 in Hernando, Miss. with activities starting at 10:30 a.m. The skaters lead the 5K at 10:55 a.m. with runners/walkers following at 11:00 a.m. Challenge games will be held on the Maddox Foundation lawn after the race. Online registration is $20 and available online at www.racesonline.com.
