January 21, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Arkansas Aeros News Release
SPRINGDALE, Ark. - Down 86-79 heading into the fourth quarter, the No. 1-rated Arkansas Aeros made the big plays down the stretch Sunday to down the tenth-rated Minnesota Ripknees 111-104 in an American Basketball Association Prize Money contest at the All-Star Sports Arena in Springdale.
In a winner-take-all contest sponsored by the ABA, the Aeros got 33 points from All-Star Curtis Haywood and 31 from Daryn Selvy to move to 19-2 on the season and a perfect 12-0 at home.
Minnesota's All-Star Jamel Staten's led the Ripknees (13-7) with 25 points. The visitors surprisingly outrebounded the Aeros 58-31 in the contest but suffered 24 turnovers.
Arkansas shot 51 percent from the field, though, including a 48 percent clip from behind the three-point stripe.
Up next for the Aeros is a home contest Thursday against the Waco Wranglers. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m. at the All-Star Sports Arena.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
