Texas Tycoons News Release
Pine Bluff, Arkansas - The Texas Tycoons traveled to Arkansas Friday night to complete the last leg of their 3 game road trip, defeating the Arkansas RiverCatz 135-100. Texas went 2-1 on the trip including a win against the Mississippi Miracles in Cleveland, Mississippi and a loss to these same RiverCatz last Saturday night at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. Texas played the January 13th game without 2006/2007 ABA All-Star Donnie Beacham (6'5''-F-81, college: Texas Arlington), who was injured during the 1st quarter in Mississippi, and were right back in Pine Bluff Friday January 20th to exact revenge with their star back in action. Beacham required 7 staples in the back of his head and was hospitalized after a collision early in the Mississippi game but was right back to lead his Tycoons to victory in this one.
Featuring a 36 point and 20 rebound performance by their returning star Beacham, and 26 points and 14 rebounds from Benny West (6'3''-G-82, agency: ProSportsCareers, college: Howard Payne) to go with 20 points from Josh Gonner (6'2''-G-82, college: S.Carolina ); the Tycoons dominated the RiverCatz in every facet of the game, outrebounding Arkansas 61-31 and connecting on 61% of their field goal attempts. Texas pulled further and further away as the game went on, leading by 10 at the half and 15 at the 3rd quarter break. Texas broke it completely open in the fourth extending the advantage to 35 points in the closing minutes.
Arkansas' Kareem Reid (5'10''-G-75, agency: Baseline Sports, college: Arkansas) finished with 30 points in a losing effort and Festus Hawkins (6'10''-C-78, college: Augusta St. ) finished with a double-double of 14 and 14 but it was all Texas in this rout 135-100.
Now 4-2 against the 2 Arkansas squads including 2-0 against the top rated Arkansas Aeros, Texas will look to improve upon that record as they next face the RiverCatz in Dallas after meeting up with cross-state rival Waco on February 2nd.
Joining Beacham in Halifax for the all-star game this season will be Tycoons coach Chris Terrell . Terrell when asked about the game said "We have a lot of respect for the RiverCatz and the Aeros, they are both well coached and each have stars that can really carry the show. We made some adjustments after our last game here and having our all-star back in the line-up made a huge difference tonight. Donny really had a great night for us tonight and we needed that, but 11 players played well for us and executed the game plan to perfection. We are very thankful to be going to the all-star weekend, but this season has really been a complete team effort. I think we have 7 or 8 players that should be considered for post-season awards. Having success in the post season will bring light to the other great players on this team"
Texas moves to the All-Star break at an impressive record of 16-5 while the RiverCatz drop to 10-6. With one more victory and 9 regular season games to play, Texas will equal the franchise mark of 17 wins set during the 04/05 season.
