NLL Dispersal Draft Results

The National Lacrosse League Dispersal Draft is now complete. The expansion Edmonton Rush selected Rory Glaves with the first overall pick. Glaves, a 23-year old defenseman from Victoria, British Columbia, comes off a promising rookie season in which he played in 15 of Anaheim's 16 games. The defenseman was voted to the league's All-Rookie Team, recieving the most votes of any rookie defenseman last season. With the second selection, the expansion Portland LumberJax selected All-Star forward Casey Powell. San Jose selected goaltender Matt Roik with the third selection, and Minnesota picked up defenseman Bruce Murray with the fourth pick.

As teams drafted players, they also had to release a player to make room on their 23-man roster. The expansion teams (Edmonton and Portland) did not have to release players as neither club has filled its 23-man roster as of yet. Complete results of the draft are as follows:

The league will hold its Entry Draft later this summer. An announcement regarding the date and location of the Entry Draft is expected soon.

FLURRY OF TRADES FOLLOW DRAFT

Powell's Reunited in Portland; Spano Back to Philadelphia NLL

The end of the Dispersal Draft set off a flurry of trade activity around the league. Several of the former Anaheim players have been reunited with General Manager and Head Coach Derek Keenan in Portland. Keenan acquired four of his former players in post-draft trades on Wednesday afternoon. Philadelphia reacquired defenseman Jeff Spano, Minnesota made several moves on the day, acquiring defenseman Brock Boyle and several draft picks for the future.

Here is a summary of the trades that immediately followed the Dispersal Draft.

ARIZONA STING: Traded defensemen Matt Dwane and Chris McElroy to the Edmonton Rush in exchange for a second round selection in the 2007 Entry Draft.

MINNESOTA SWARM: Traded Kerry Susheski, Ted Jenner and a third round selection in the 2005 Entry draft to the Edmonton Rush in exchange for Jeff Spano, Damien Davis and their first round selection in the 2007 Entry draft.

MINNESOTA SWARM: Traded defenseman Jeff Spano and a first round selection in the 2005 Entry Draft and to the Philadelphia Wings in exchange for forward Peter Morgan and defenseman Pat Jones.

MINNESOTA SWARM: Traded forwards Peter Morgan, Ryan Powell and defensemen Damien Davis and Pat Jones to the Portland Lumberjax for defenseman Brock Boyle, a third round selection in the 2005 Entry Draft and a first round selection in the 2006 Entry Draft.

PORTLAND LUMBERJAX: Traded their second round selection in the 2005 Entry Draft to the Calgary Roughnecks in exchange for goaltender Matt King.
