Hamilton Tiger-Cats News Release
The Canadian Football League unveiled Wednesday the 2018 East and West Division All-Stars, which included nine Hamilton Tiger-Cats: quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, wide receivers Brandon Banks and Luke Tasker, offensive lineman Brandon Revenberg, defensive tackle Ted Laurent, linebackers Larry Dean and Don Unamba, and defensive backs Delvin Breaux Sr. and Cariel Brooks.
Banks, who has now been named a divisional all-star in five consecutive seasons (2014-18), earned the nod for the second time as a wide receiver after three-straight selections for his role on special teams as a kick returner. Laurent (2012, 2014-16, 2018) also earned his fifth divisional all-star selection, while Tasker (2014-15, 2017-18) took home his fourth, Breaux (2014, 2018) and Dean (2017-18) each earned their second, and Masoli, Revenberg, Unamba and Brooks were all selected for the first time in their respective careers.
Masoli, 30, appeared in and started 17 games this season, completing 378 of 572 pass attempts (66.1%) for 5,209 yards, 28 passing touchdowns and 18 interceptions. The San Francisco, California native also registered 63 carries for 473 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Masoli finished the season ranked second in quarterback rating (81.0) and passing yards (5,209), third in passing touchdowns (28) and fourth in pass efficiency (98.3). This season, Masoli recorded 300 or more passing yards in 12 games, setting a new club record as well as tying him for fourth-most such games in a single season in league history. Among all-time Ticats records in a single season, in 2018 Masoli ranked fourth in passing touchdowns, third in passing yards and third in pass completions. Additionally, the University of Mississippi product moved into seventh in career passing yards, eighth in career pass attempts and completions, and ninth in career passing touchdowns in Ticats history. Masoli was named a CFL Top Performer five times this season, including a CFL Top Performer of the Week for Weeks 2, 3 and 12, as well as a CFL Top Performer of the Month for June and September.
Banks, 30, finished the season tied for first in the CFL in receiving touchdowns (11), second in receiving yards (1,423) and receptions (94), and fifth in pass targets (129), despite playing in only 14 games after missing two games with a groin injury midway through the season and the final two games of the season with a broken clavicle suffered in Week 19 at Ottawa. This season, Banks also set a new club record for the most 100-plus yards receiving games in a single season with 10, eclipsing Tony Champion's eight, which held up as the franchise's all-time high since 1989. Banks' 94 receptions and 1,423 receiving yards in 2018 both rank fifth in a single season in Ticats history.
Tasker, 27, played and started 15 games in 2018 and finished the season tied for first in the CFL in receiving touchdowns (11), fourth in receiving yards (1,104) and seventh in receptions (78) and pass targets (111). The 5-11, 189-pound wide receiver climbed the Tiger-Cats' all-time leaderboard in receiving yards and receptions this season, finishing 2018 fourth in club history in career receptions (419) and eighth in career receiving yards (5,328).
Revenberg, 25, started 17 of his 18 games played this season at left guard. The 6-4, 301-pound offensive lineman was part of a unit that allowed the third-fewest sacks (36) in the CFL. Through three CFL seasons, the durable Essex, Ontario native has yet to miss a game.
Laurent, 30, played and started 16 games for the Tiger-Cats this season at defensive tackle, recording 20 defensive tackles, eight quarterback sacks, three tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one pass knockdown. This season, the Powder Springs, Georgia native ranked tied for seventh in the CFL in quarterback sacks and moved up to ninth in Ticats history in career quarterback sacks (32).
Dean, 30, started 17 of his 18 games played this season at middle linebacker. The 6-0, 226-pound linebacker registered 105 defensive tackles, three pass knockdowns, two interceptions, one special teams tackle, one tackle for loss and one fumble recovery. One of his interceptions came September 15 versus Calgary, which he returned for 60 yards and his first-career CFL touchdown. In Week 20, Dean became the fourth player in Ticats history to record 100 defensive tackles in a season. With 105 defensive tackles, the Tifton, Georgia native ranks fourth in defensive tackles in a single season in club history. He also ranked tied for third in the CFL in defensive tackles this season.
Unamba, 29, started 17 of his 18 games played this season at SAM linebacker. The 6-1, 195-pound linebacker finished the season with career highs in defensive tackles (59), quarterback sacks (4) and forced fumbles (3), and also registered seven pass knockdowns, four tackles for loss, one fumble recovery and one interception.
Breaux Sr., 29, played and started 14 games this season at cornerback. The 6-1, 210-pound defensive back recorded 24 defensive tackles, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, two pass knockdowns and one tackle for loss this season.
