Evansville IceMen News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN.--- The Evansville IceMen have announced on this date some additional player roster transactions which have taken effect immediately.
One of Evansville's two NHL parent clubs, the St. Louis Blues, have recalled left wing ANTHONY NIGRO (NYE-grow) and center BRETT SONNE (SAHN-nee) and re-assigned both players to their AHL affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen.
In a separate transaction, the IceMen have acquired center NATHAN MOON from Cincinnati in trade with the Cyclones.
Nigro, a third year pro, saw action in 3-games with Evansville after launching the current campaign in Peoria with the Rivermen. He is a former sixth round pick of the Blues in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. In 3-games with the IceMen, Nigro was 3(0-0-0) 0-PIM. Sonne, presently in his fourth pro campaign, had emerged as Evansville's top point-meister, registering 7-points in 7-games on 3-goals, 4-assists and 2-PPG. The St. Louis third round choice in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft authored a season-opening 3-game goal and point streak with the Evansville ECHL club, actually delivering 1-goal and 1-assist in each of those initial 3-appearances.
Moon, 22, is beginning his second pro season, having sculpted his craft in his rookie campaign of 2011-12 exclusively in the AHL with the Worcester Sharks, the principal affiliate of the NHL San Jose Sharks. The 5-11, 197lb native of Belleville, Ontario was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fourth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft; following an extraordinary five year major junior `A' career with the OHL Kingston Frontenacs. The newest IceMen acquisition topped his Kingston squadron in scoring production in each of the last 4-years in succession. His OHL career numbers are impressive; 316-games; 139-goals; 193-assists; 332-points.
His first actual taste of the pro experience came in his final junior season of 2010-11 when he landed with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, becoming a member of the Mudbugs President Cup's title timber team.
Moon will don jersey #15 in making his debut this weekend when the IceMen host Wheeling Friday night, November 2nd at 7:15 pm at the Ford Center on "Mascot Night." The IceMen will travel to Toledo for a clash with the Walleye Saturday night, November 3rd at 6:00 pm.
