June 9, 2011 - United Football League (UFL 1)
Omaha Nighthawks News Release

OMAHA, NE - Thursday, June 9 - The Omaha Nighthawks will create history when they kickoff the 2011 United Football League season in Sacramento against the Mountain Lions in the first-ever UFL Sunday game on August 14.

"I feel really good about the schedule," said Nighthawks President and head coach JOE MOGLIA. "We know the teams and coaches we're going to play against and I'm ready to get started."

Mountain Lions head coach DENNIS GREEN said of his Week One opponent: "I think Omaha comes into the year as one of the favorites. I think they will start fast again this year."

Nighthawks fans can see their team make a much anticipated TD Ameritrade Park home debut against the Virginia Destroyers a week later in Omaha on Sunday, August 21.

"That is going to be a big deal," added Moglia. "TD Ameritrade Park is truly a first-class, beautiful stadium. To be able to play there is going to be exciting and I hope Omaha is going to be excited about it."

After hosting Virginia, the Nighthawks hit the road again for back-to-back games at Las Vegas (August 27) and Virginia (September 2) before having a bye week. The action resumes at home to Sacramento (September 18) and at Hartford (September 23) before a two-game home stand split by a second bye week sees Las Vegas (September 30) and Hartford (October 15) visit TD Ameritrade Park.

Omaha Nighthawks match ups explored:

Week 1 OMAHA at SACRAMENTO

All-time series record: tied at 1-1.

Dennis Green will be the only veteran UFL head coach in action on opening weekend... He has a 0-2 opening weekend record with the Mountain Lions and California Redwoods... This is the first time the Mountain Lions have opened a season at home... August 14 in Sacramento will be Joe Moglia's first-ever game as professional head coach... The Nighthawks look to snap a four-game losing streak that closed the 2010 season... The Nighthawks' last win came on the road, five games ago in Hartford... This will be the first Sunday game in UFL history.

Week 2 VIRGINIA at OMAHA

All-time series record: first ever meeting.

The game will be Omaha's first-ever at the team's new TD Ameritrade Park home... Match up could feature two young, dynamic quarterbacks in Pat White (VIR) and Jeremiah Masoli (OMA)... The Florida Tuskers swept the Nighthawks 2-0 in 2010, including a Week 10 win that earned a Championship Game berth... The Nighthawks go in search of a first home win since an 18-17 October 2 victory over Sacramento in Week 5 of 2010.... The Nighthawks are 1-0 in UFL home openers.

Week 3 OMAHA at LAS VEGAS

All-time series record: 2-0 Las Vegas.

The Locos won both meetings last year, 22-10 at home at Sam Boyd Stadium and 24-10 in Omaha... The Locos hold a 1-1 record in their first home games of the season... In previous home openers, Las Vegas has a 1-1 record... The Locos' first home opener, a 30-17 win over the Redwoods, was also the first game in UFL history on Thursday, October 8, 2009.

Week 4 OMAHA at VIRGINIA

The second-ever meeting between the youngest franchises in the UFL comes only 12 days after they first met in Omaha... Virginia's predecessor the Florida Tuskers hold a 2-1 record coming off a bye week... This is the season's first Friday night game.

Week 6 SACRAMENTO at OMAHA

The first-ever UFL Sunday doubleheader is scheduled for September 18, when Sacramento travels to Omaha and Virginia goes to Las Vegas.... Mountain Lions running back Cory Ross returns 'home' having played college football at Nebraska... The Nighthawks won this match up 20-17 in 2010 in the 'Rumble at Rosenblatt'.

Week 7 OMAHA AT HARTFORD

All-time series record: 2-0 Omaha.

Both games last season were decided by a total of six points... The Nighthawks won by virtue of a missed Colonials PAT when the teams met for the first time in franchise history in Omaha in 2010... The return game at Rentschler Field saw the Colonials driving while training by five points when an errant snap over the quarterback's head in shotgun formation killed off hopes of a home comeback... The Nighthawks' last win came in this game last season.

Week 8 LAS VEGAS at OMAHA

The Locos have fond memories of Omaha having won their second UFL Championship Game in the city with a 23-20 win over the Florida Tuskers at Rosenblatt Stadium on November 27, 2010... The game will be the Nighthawks' second straight played on a Friday night and third overall.

Week 10 HARTFORD at OMAHA

The Nighthawks close the regular season at home for the second year running.
