Omaha Nighthawks News Release
OMAHA, NE -At the beginning of the Omaha Nighthawks' first game week of the season, the team continued to upgrade its roster on Monday, adding the services of former NFL first round draft pick Charles Grant.
Grant was drafted by the New Orleans Saints as the 25th pick in the 2002 NFL Draft and played eight seasons with the Saints. In his rookie season in 2002, Grant registered seven sacks for minus-40 yards and forced four fumbles. Over the next two years, 2003-2004, Grant started all 32 regular season games and recorded a team-best 20.5 sacks.
In 2009, Grant started at defensive end throughout the season in helping the Saints achieve a 13-3 record. He went on injured reserve during the playoffs with a torn triceps, but still received a Super Bowl ring after the Saints' defeat of the Indianapolis Colts.
For his career, Grant made 423 tackles, 47 sacks, 1 interception and forced 16 fumbles. The left defensive end will look to step into the Nighthawks' lineup immediately this Friday for the home opener against Hartford. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Rosenblatt Stadium.
