Maryland NightHawks News Release
Upper Marlboro, MD. - Today, Maryland NightHawks Owner, Andrew Haines promoted Ashlee Fontes to the NightHawks Operations Manager.
Ashlee started out with the NightHawks as the Team Operations intern. She showed tremendous dedication and commitment to the NightHawks, driving a total of 90 miles everyday to work as an unpaid intern.
"We really wanted to get somebody in here that we knew worked well with us and that would make a significant contribution to our team. We were happy when she joined our team an intern and now that we've seen what she brings to the table from her experiences we don't want her to work anywhere else," commented Haines.
Ms. Fontes came to us as a recent graduate from Florida State University. At FSU, Ashlee majored in Sports Management and minored in business while starting on the FSU Women's Soccer Team. As a defender, during her collegiate soccer career (1999-2002), Ashlee helped her team advance to two Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA tournaments as well as setting defensive records along the way. In the summers of 2001 and 2002, she played semi-pro soccer for Tampa Bay and the Jacksonville Jade as a starting defender for each. She then hung up her cleats, deciding not to pursue soccer any further and instead focused on work.
While juggling school and soccer Ashlee managed to fit in three tremendous internship experiences. In the spring semester of 2003, she assisted Florida State University's Athletic department as a Sports Information Intern. The summer of 2003, she landed the opportunity to work for the current NHL Champions, the Tampa Bay Lightning, as a Group Sales Intern. To finish up her last year of college, in the fall semester of 2003, Ashlee interned for St. John Paul II Catholic High School for the Athletic Director.
"I am very excited that Andrew has opened the door to my dreams for me. I think that I have shown my desire and determination to work with the NightHawks organization that will help reach their goals. Most importantly, I think that my past internship experiences have helped a lot, specifically with the Tampa Bay Lightning," says Ashlee Fontes.
