Nighthawks Announce Radio Broadcast Team for 2010 Season

September 13, 2010 - United Football League (UFL 1)
Omaha Nighthawks News Release

A trio of talented and experienced broadcasters will be announcing games for the Omaha Nighthawks' inaugural UFL season on KOZN 1620 "The Zone" ESPN Radio this year.

Mark Kraynak will call the play-by-play action; Mike'l Severe will provide color commentary, and J.J. Davis will report from the sideline, beginning with the season opener on Sept. 24 against the Hartford Colonials at Rosenblatt Stadium.

The three will call each one of the Nighthawks' eight regular season games, including both home and away games. All Nighthawks' games will be broadcast live on 1620 AM and streamed live at 1620thezone.com. Podcasts of the games will be made available at the conclusion of the game at 1620thezone.com.

Kraynak, the play-by-play announcer, is a Bellevue West and Nebraska alum who announces Cox's High School Game of the Week in Nebraska. Kraynak has called many sports over the years, including football, basketball, hockey, wrestling, volleyball and baseball. He has also filled in on 1620 "The Zone" for various radio programs, including "Unsportsmanlike Conduct" and "Schick and Nick."

"Getting a chance to call pro football, right here where I grew up, is literally a dream come true," Kraynak said. "Who'd have thought even five years ago that Omaha would have a pro football franchise? I can't wait."

Severe, who will be providing color commentary in the booth with Kraynak, co-hosts "Unsportsmanlike Conduct" on 1620 "The Zone" on weekday afternoons. Severe graduated from Sam Houston State and worked as a reporter in Louisiana and New Mexico before moving to KETV in Omaha as a reporter.

Davis most recently served as the sports director at KPTM in Omaha and has been in the sports broadcasting business for more than 25 years. He will provide in-game updates from the sideline.

In addition to game coverage, 1620 "The Zone" will host a weekly coach's show, which will regularly include interviews with Nighthawks' players. The first coach's show will be on Sept. 18. The head coach of the Nighthawks' opponent for the week will also appear on the show at some point during their respective game week.

The Nighthawks' season opener against the Hartford Colonials on Friday, Sept. 24 is set for 6 p.m. at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha.
