May 13, 2005 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
West Texas Roughnecks News Release
Odessa, TX. Even with the Odessa Roughnecks being 7-0 they continue to make changes to their roster to improve the team.
"Though we're undefeated it doesn't mean that we don't have room for improvement." Coach Williams said, "I believe that the changes we made were in the best interest of the team, and that the guy's we brought in will help us continue to get better and reach are ultimate goal of winning a championship."
The changes that Coach Williams talks about are the addition of 2 very outstanding players. #9, Joey Robinson a 5'11 190lb shutdown defensive back comes to the Roughnecks from the AFL where he played for the San Jose Sabercats. Joey honed his skills at Central Missouri State, were he was one of the premier man to man coverage DB in the nation, Joey has been with the Sabercats patiently waiting to show the world what he can do, and he will get that chance this Saturday against the Corpus Christi Hammerheads. The other new edition to the team is a more familiar face to Odessa Roughnecks number 22 J.J. Barnett. J.J. played for the Roughnecks at the end of Last season and was the best fullback/linebacker that they had. With a 5'11 245lb frame Barnett emerged as one of the premier blockers and short yard backs in the IFL.
"I get excited when I think of the direction that our organization is headed. We already felt that we had the best fans the country and now were proving we have the best coaches and players in the country."
The next game will be on Saturday, May 14, with the Tailgate party jumping off at 5:00p.m directly followed by Kick-off at 7:11p.m. Tickets are going fast so don't be the only one in the Permian Basin without one
