The Montgomery Maulers have unveiled a new promotion called "Average Joe" in which a local celebrity or fan will have the opportunity to practice with the Maulers, dress for a regular season game, and if the situation is right, actually play in a game.

Former Auburn great Charlie Trotman, a star quarterback for the Tigers from 1977 through 1979, will suit-up this weekend, Saturday, May 14 when the Maulers host the Rome Renegades. Currently a real estate developer in Montgomery, Trotman played professional football for the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL in 1983. Most recently, he spent 15 years as an analyst on the Auburn Radio Network (1986-2000). The 47-year-old Trotman practiced this week with the Maulers in preparation for Saturday's game.

"The arm may be a little rusty, but I felt pretty good at practice and I'm excited to have this chance," said Trotman.

The team is talking to other local celebrities about participating in the promotion. The league has given the Maulers permission to add another roster spot for the "Average Joe" participant.

The Maulers are in the process of adding the "Average Joe" promotion to their website (www.montgomerymaulers.com) in which fans can submit their name and win a chance to practice with the team and play in a real game.
