The Erie SeaWolves fell 6-1 against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies at UPMC Park on Thursday.
Luke Ritter led off the game with a single against Chance Kirby. Brett Baty singled on a hit-and-run to advance Ritter to third. Ronny Mauricio reached on a fielder's choice, which moved Baty to third. Carlos Cortes lifted a double to left-center field to bring in Baty. Jeremy Vasquez tapped one to Quincy Nieporte but the ball went underneath his glove, scoring both Baty and Cortes to give Binghamton a 3-0 lead.
Zach Ashford opened the second inning with a single. Cody Bohanek drove in Ashford with a double. Luke Ritter then cleared bases with a two-run jack to put the Rumble Ponies ahead, 6-0.
Nieporte lined a solo homer over the left field fence against Jose Butto in the seventh to cut the deficit to 6-1. It was his 20th long ball of the season.
Billy Lescher, Zac Houston, Joe Navilhon, Yaya Chentouf, and Gerson Moreno combined for seven shutout frames in relief. The Erie bullpen extends its scoreless streak to 17.2 innings.
Butto (6-5) earned the win after throwing 6.2 innings of one-run ball.
Kirby (6-3) received the loss. He tossed two innings and gave up six runs, five earned runs, two hits, and no walks while striking out two.
