Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Hartford, Conn - Hunter Stovall cracked a go-ahead three-run homer, Kyle Datres extended his hitting streak to five games, and Isaac Collins tallied three extra-base hits as the Hartford Yard Goats beat the Harrisburg Senators 9-4 on Thursday night at Dunkin' Donuts Park. Hartford combined for 14 hits and won its second straight game against the Nationals affiliate. The Yard Goats defeated Senators starter and Manchester, Connecticut native Tim Cate for their third win in four games.
Harrisburg jumped out to an early 2-0 in the top of the first inning on a two-run homer by Justin Connell off Hartford's starter Nick Bush. The Yard Goats responded with one run of their own in the bottom of the frame. Collins cracked a double to lead off the inning, and Aaron Schunk drove in Collins with an RBI single off Harrisburg's starter Tim Cate to cut the Senators' lead to 2-1.
Hartford quickly took back the lead, scoring four times in the second. Kyle Datres raced home from third on a wild pitch to tie the game. Then, Stovall stepped up with runners on first and second and launched a three-run shot into the right-field porch seats. The homer was Stovall's fifth of the season and put the Yard Goats in front 5-2. In the third, a Collins triple scored Willie MacIver, extending Hartford's lead to 6-2.
The Nationals affiliate clawed back with one run in the fourth and one in the sixth inning, cutting Hartford's lead to 6-4. However, Hartford's starter Bush would limit the damage, spinning seven innings of four-run ball, walking none, and striking out eight.
The Yard Goats added insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh. Brenton Doyle walked and stole second base. Datres cracked a liner over the left-field wall for a two-run homer, his seventh blast of the season, extending Hartford's lead to 8-4. Datres has a hit and RBI in five consecutive games, his longest streak of the season. Collins doubled and scored on a Schunk groundout in the eighth, adding Hartford's ninth run.
The Yard Goats continue their homestand against the Nationals affiliate, the Harrisburg Senators, on Friday night at 7:05. RHP Noah Davis will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Ronald Herrera will start for the Senators. The two squads will battle it out three more times, concluding on Sunday afternoon.
