Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

MARIETTA, GA - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs announces the Southern League Player of the Month for May. Shortstop Nick Gordon of the Chattanooga Lookouts (Minnesota Twins) was selected for the honors after a stellar month at the plate.

Over 27 games played last month, Nick Gordon was a terror to League pitchers. In a league-high 109 at-bats, Gordon either led or tied for the league lead with 22 runs, 17 extra-base hits, 58 total bases, 11 doubles and three triples. The Twins top prospect added 32 hits, three homeruns, 15 RBI, 14 walks and a pair of stolen bases. His three homeruns last month tied for the most longballs Gordon has hit in a single season during his four year professional career. Finishing with a .906 OPS percentage over the month, Gordon finished May with a .297 batting average, .374 on-base percentage and slugging percentage of .532.

Gordon recorded nine multi-hit games last month and tallied 13 games with an extra-base hit. Of his 32 hits in May, over half (17) were for extra-bases. Gordon's biggest night of the month came in an 8-1 win over the visiting Pensacola Blue Wahoos, where he went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles and a pair of RBI. Most importantly, Gordon helped keep his Chattanooga Lookouts within a half-game of first place in the North Division entering June.

The Twins selected Nick Gordon with their 1st round pick of the 2014 draft out of Olympia High School in Orlando, Florida, where he was named Gatorade High School Player of the Year. Nick is the brother of current Marlins outfielder Dee Gordon and the son of former major leaguer Tom Gordon, both former Southern League stars. Over 345 career MiLB games, Gordon has accumulated a .297 batting average with 398 hits, 536 total bases, 67 doubles, 22 triples and 58 stolen bases.
