
2017 Southern League All-Star Game Coaching Staffs and Umpires

MARIETTA, GA - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs announces the coaching staffs and umpiring crews for the 2017 Southern League All-Star Game, scheduled for Tuesday, June 20 at Blue Wahoos Stadium in Pensacola, Florida. Members of the Arizona Diamondbacks instructional team will coach the North Division All-Stars, while Pat Kelly and his Pensacola Blue Wahoos staff will man the helm of the South Division All-Stars. Travis Godec will serve as the umpiring Crew Chief with Lewis Williams, Alex MacKay, and Matt Winter also receiving all-star game duties.
As hosts of the Southern League All-Star Game, Pat Kelly is currently in his third season as the skipper of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos after managing throughout MiLB for 30 years. Drafted by the California Angels in third round of the 1973 draft, Kelly played professionally for 13 seasons, including a stint in the majors with the Toronto Blue Jays. Previously the manager of the 1993-94 Chattanooga Lookouts, Kelly entered the 2017 season winning the last three South Divison halves. Joining Kelly are Blue Wahoos pitching coach Danny Darwin, coach Dick Schofield, and athletic trainer Tyler Moos.
As the 2016 North Division pennant-winning, and eventual SL Champions, the Jackson Generals send a staff to Pensacola as the managing side of the North All-Stars. With JR House unavailable, the Arizona Diamondbacks minor league field coordinator and Colombia's World Baseball Classic skipper Luis Urueta will serve as the manager of the squad. Accompanying Urueta to Pensacola will be Generals pitching coach Doug Drabek, Dbacks roving hitting coach Chris Cron, and athletic trainer Ryne Eubanks.
The crew chief for the 2017 All-Star Game, Travis Godec, a resident of Roanoke, Virginia, is in his third season with the league. He is joined by Lewis Williams of Riverbank, California, also in his third SL campaign, Alex MacKay of Evergreen Colorado and Matt Winter of Hubbard, Iowa, both in their second Southern League stops. Ryan Doherty, a second-year SL umpire out of Littleton, Colorado will serve as an alternate.
North Division rosters will be announced tomorrow, June 6, with the South rosters on June 7. The North Starting Lineup and Pitcher will come June 8 with the South starters on the 9th of June.
