Nichols Delivers in the Clutch

Harlingen, Texas - Brian Nichols delivers the go-ahead run as the McAllen Thunder defeated the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings (17-11) by score 5-2 at Harlingen Field on Friday night.

Gianison Rosa singled to start the sixth. Finally, Nichols came to the plate with the score tied at one, and singled, scoring Rosa.

Craig Hertler racked up two RBIs on four hits for the McAllen Thunder (9-20). He singled in the third, fifth, seventh, and eighth innings.

The McAllen Thunder relied on Brian Murphy (2-3) to eat up innings en route to the win. Murphy allowed one earned run, six hits and two walks while striking out four over seven innings of work to get his second win of the season.

Chad Robinson earned his second save of the season by pitching an inning and one-third while striking out one.

A bright spot for the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings in the defeat was Luis Noel (2-2), who allowed only two runs while striking out six. Noel was charged with his second loss of the year.

The McAllen Thunder will continue their four game series on the road versus the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings at Harlingen Field with the first pitch scheduled at 7:05 p.m.
