Hawaiian Islanders News Release
HONOLULU â The Hawaiian Islanders Thursday placed leading receiver Nian Taylor on the short term injured reserve list and will miss next week's game against the Tulsa Talons due to a hamstring injury.
Taylor suffered the injury in last Saturday's 54-36 loss to Quad City on the second play from scrimmage. On that play Taylor was reaching for the ball and slammed into the boards and got tangled with his Quad City defender. He returned to the bench on his own power however he did not return to the game. This was the first time in his Islander career that he was held to no receptions and will mark the first time he will miss a game since joining the team in June 2002.
In 13 games this season, Taylor leads the team with 64 receptions for 993 yards and 26 touchdowns. He currently ranks fifth in arenafootball2 in scoring with 164 points.
The Islanders also activated fullback/linebacker Vai Notoa from the short term IR. Notoa broke his thumb on June 14 against Peoria and is listed as questionable for next week's game. Hawaii also received the assignment of Leroy Shelton and placed him on the active roster.
Hawaii can clinch a playoff spot this weekend if Tennessee Valley (12-0) defeats Memphis (5-7) this weekend. The Islanders remain one game head of Wichita (8-5) in the Western Division race.
