Pats Launch 100th Anniversary Mastercard Memorial Cup Volunteer Campaign
Regina, Saskatchewan - The Regina Pats 2018 Mastercard Memorial Cup Host Organizing Committee has announced the official kick-off of their campaign to recruit event volunteers for the 100th anniversary edition of the Mastercard Memorial Cup. The tournament will be held in the Queen City, May 18-27, 2018 and also for their Homecoming Weekend celebration, happening February 16-18, 2018.
"Saskatchewan has the most passionate and energetic volunteers in the country," says Shaun Semple, Chair of the 2018 Host Organizing Committee. "The Memorial Cup is yet another chance for us to demonstrate to the rest of Canada what we can do when we come together as a community in support of this legendary hockey celebration."
Starting November 1st, the Host Organizing Committee is seeking to sign up 500 volunteers in a variety of roles in anticipation of the upcoming Memorial Cup and Homecoming Weekend events. Those interested in participating are asked to go to www.mastercardmemorialcup.ca and click on the logo to begin the application process.
"We're confident that the community will want to be part of this once-in-a-century volunteer opportunity," adds Shannon Doka, 2018 MasterCard Memorial Cup Volunteer Manager. "Some of the positions we will be recruiting for are: hosts, servers, bartenders, ticket attendants, entertainment assistants, drivers and security."
The Committee will have an information booth set up onsite at the Brandt Centre tonight and in the coming weeks to provide information to interested fans and to encourage volunteers to register.

The coveted Memorial Cup has a rich tradition that has shaped the way junior hockey is played in North America. The trophy was originally known as the OHA Memorial Cup and was donated in remembrance of the many soldiers who paid the supreme sacrifice for Canada in The First World War. The championship is contested annually by league champions for the Western Hockey League, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League and the CHL host team.
