Published on November 1, 2017 under Western Hockey League (WHL) News Release

Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Swift Current Broncos forward Tyler Steenbergen has been named the WHL Player of the Month for September and October 2017.

Steenbergen, a 19-year-old product of Sylvan Lake, Alta., recorded 35 points (21G-14A) in 13 games, helping the Swift Current Broncos battle for control of the lead in Eastern Conference since the opening weekend of the season.

A 5-foot-10, 182-pound center who was selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the fifth round (128th) of the 2017 NHL Draft put defences across the league on high alert with his offensive play so far this season. He registered four-goal games on three occasions and has had multi-point efforts in nine games, including his first five.

A two-time WHL On the Run Player of the Week and one-time CHL Player of the Week already, Steenbergen's recognition also included four appearances on the WHL's nightly three stars, three times as the first star of the night. In addition to leading the league in goals and points, Steenbergen is tied for first with four game-winning goals, is tied for second with three first goals for his club and tied for sixth in the league with five power-play goals.

Steenbergen's pace of 2.69 points per game is well more than the 1.25 points per game he averaged last season. Through 224 WHL regular season games, Steenbergen has tallied 182 points (97G-85A) with 31 power play goals and 19 goals counting as game-winners.

Originally the 12th overall selection by the Broncos in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, Steenbergen will line up alongside other top-tier talent from across the WHL at the 2017 CIBC Canada Russia Series, which will play a game at his home rink of the Credit Union I-Plex on Tuesday, November 7.

BRONCOS' FLODELL NAMED

VAUGHN WHL GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH

Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Swift Current Broncos goaltender Logan Flodell has been named the Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month for September and October 2017.

Flodell, a 20-year-old native of Regina, Sask., has been a major pickup for the team after being acquired in a trade two days before the start of the 2017-18 regular season. In 11 games, Flodell posted a 9-1-1-0 record with a 2.45 goals against average and 0.928 SV% with two shutouts.

His efforts earned him recognition as the WHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 15 while also earning the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week honours too. Twice he was recognized by the WHL as the first star of the night in their nightly three stars.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Flodell is tied for the league lead in goals-against average (GAA) and leads the league outright in save percentage (SV%) for qualified goaltenders. His two shutouts also lead the league while his nine wins have him ranked second among WHL puck stoppers.

Drafted in the third round (47th) of the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft by the Seattle Thunderbirds, Flodell has split his 111-game WHL career between the Broncos, Thunderbirds and Saskatoon Blades. Now in his overage season, Flodell has compiled a 57-36-9-1 record with a 2.76 GAA, 0.909 SV% and eight shutouts.

Having previously represented Hockey Canada at the 2014 World U-17 Hockey Challenge, Flodell is well on his way to setting new career-bests in wins, GAA, SV%, shutouts and minutes played. Flodell is also 11 wins away from accomplishing a rare feat of winning 20 games with three different WHL clubs.
