CHL Announces Top 10 Rankings

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced the week seven edition of the CHL Top 10 Rankings for the 2017-18 season. The weekly rankings of the CHL's Top 10 teams are selected by a panel of National Hockey League scouts.

Remaining in the second spot in this week's national Top 10 rankings are the Swift Current Broncos, who split their two games this week. Friday, the Broncos lost their first game to a divisional opponent this season, dropping a 4-3 result to the Saskatoon Blades. The Broncos rebounded Saturday with a 4-0 shutout of the Medicine Hat Tigers on the strength of a 38-save shutout by Vaughn WHL goaltender of the Month Logan Flodell, who ranks first in the WHL for goals against average (2.45), SV% (.928) and second in wins (nine). WHL Player of the Month and Arizona Coyotes prospect Tyler Steenbergen continues to lead the league in both goals (21) and points (35) through 13 games. This is the fourth straight week the Broncos have appeared in the CHL's Top 10 Rankings.

Also holding their same position as last week were the Moose Jaw Warriors, who held firm in the four spot after splitting both their games. The Warriors took an 8-4 loss Wednesday against the Tri-City Americans and a 9-1 win against the Medicine Hat Tigers Friday to end their seven-game road trip with a 4-3 record. WHL On the Run Player of the Week and Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Brett Howden scored 11 points (7G-4A) on the road trip, including three multi-goal performances. This is the fifth week on the Top 10 Rankings for the Warriors.

A pair of Western Conference teams also kept themselves in the CHL's Top 10 Rankings, including the Victoria Royals, who moved up two spots to seventh. After closing out a Eastern Conference road trip with a loss last Wednesday, the Royals returned home and earned a pair of victories over the rival Vancouver Giants. After winning 6-5 in a shootout Saturday, the Royals improved to 8-0 against the B.C. Division Sunday with a 4-3 win. Calgary Flames prospect and Royals captain Matthew Phillips has rocketed up the WHL's scoring charts with 34 points (15G-19A) in 17 games. This week marked the fifth straight week on the rankings for the Royals.

The Portland Winterhawks dropped four spots to ninth in this week's rankings after playing a single game in a 3-2 loss to the Everett Silvertips. Winnipeg Jets prospect Skyler McKenzie saw his nine-game point streak end in the process, with 16 points (10G-6A) to show for it over that span. New York Islanders prospect Kieffer Bellows is also continuing to excel at the WHL level, with 16 points in his last eight games (8G-8A), including goals in six of his last seven contests.

Earning an honourable mention this week were the Tri-City Americans, who lost a pair of overtime games, but are still 6-0-2-0 in their last eight games. The team has been led by forward Jordan Topping and his eight multi-point games this season.
