Richmond Roosters News Release


Things are happening fast and furious at McBride Stadium as the Richmond Roosters and their fans get ready for the tenth season of baseball - Roosters style. The season kicks off this Sunday as the Roosters take on the Florence Freedom in an exhibition double header starting at 1:00 pm at McBride Stadium. Admission is free. So come out and cheer on your Richmond Roosters as they begin the quest for a third Frontier League championship.

The 2004 Richmond Roosters roster has been pared down to 26 as the team goes through the paces in spring training. The club has to be down to 24 or below by the day before opening day, May 21st.

Wednesday, season ticket holders got a chance to meet the 2004 Roosters players and coaches, then capped it off by taking BP as field manager Chris Mongiardo demonstrated his speed and style from the mound. Read more about the night at:

Friday saw a press conference at McBride as Mayor Sally Hutton, Parks Superintendent Stan Lambert, Roosters majority owner Allen Brady, Frontier League Deputy Commissioner Kevin Rouch, RHS Athletic Director Rae Woolpy, RHS Baseball Coach D.J. Austin and Earlham College Baseball Coach Tom Parkevich all participated in an announcement of field and facility improvements at McBride Stadium to begin this fall. FIELD IMPROVEMENTS AT McBRIDE

And the big news of the week...Richmond Roosters radio broadcasts are now a world wide event. The Roosters, for the first time in our ten year history will broadcast all 2004 home and away games on the web. Click on the link on the Roosters web site www.RichmondRoosters.com to listen to the broadcasts. Pre-game shows start twenty minutes before the game, with the voice of the Roosters, Scott Leo. Scott will be your host for every minute of every game throughout the 2004 season. Broadcasts begin with the exhibition game this Sunday, May 16th against the Florence Freedom at 12:40 pm. Don't forget opening day is less than a week away as the Roosters take on the Chillicothe Paints on Friday, May 21st at 6:35 pm. The game will be followed by a fabulous fireworks display sponsored by Argosy Casino. Saturday, May 22nd at 6:35 pm will be Subway Mini-Pennant Giveaway Night and Thermacare Heatwrap Night.

Sunday, May 23rd at 4:35 pm will be Fayette County Chamber of Commerce Night at the Park.
