Two From Tryout Join RiverHawks, Keep Pro Dreams Alive

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Two players with prior professional-baseball experience joined the Rockford RiverHawks today after making it through the annual team tryout. Both will be with the RiverHawks for Sunday's exhibition doubleheader at Windy City with a chance to make the final 24-man roster.

Right-handed pitcher J.R. Crosby, 26, may return to the Frontier League after a three-year absence. Crosby's only prior pro experience came as the backup catcher for the London Werewolves in 2000. He hit .182 with four RBI in 17 games. If he makes the final cut, he'll be in his second, and last, FL season – he turns 27 November 23 and will reach the league's age limit.

Corner infielder Mike Settle played collegiately with Rockford infielder Shaff Elkouri at Texas Christian University. Last year, he broke into pro ball with the Selma Cloverleafs of the now-defunct Southeastern League. He hit .221 with a home run and four RBI in 122 at-bats.

The RiverHawks-ThundeBolts doubleheader begins at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Hawkinson Ford Field in Crestwood.

The RiverHawks host the Windy City ThunderBolts in an exhibition doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Marinelli Field. ll tickets are $2 and all seats are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Hot dogs, chips, popcorn, soft drinks and beer are all just $1 each.

The RiverHawks begin their third season on May 21 at the Windy City Thunderbolts. The ‘Hawks open the home schedule at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, May 25 against the Springfield/Ozark Ducks at Marinelli Field. All games will be broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 – the Hub and at the team website. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 12th season.
