New York Red Bulls II News Release
MATTHEWS, NC - New York Red Bulls II (14-7-5, 50 pts.) will look to stay hot as they face off against Crown Legacy FC (17-4-4, 58 pts.) for the third time this season. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET, and coverage will be available on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
New York are still searching for their first victory over Crown Legacy, following two previous matches where the opposition scooped up a majority of the points. The last time both squads saw each other back on June 18, when Crown Legacy claimed two of three points. New York led until the late moments of the game, when Crown Legacy forced a shootout which they eventually won. Prior in the season, they also defeated New York 3-1, back on April 9.
New York will be riding a scorching hot win streak into Sunday's matchup, as they have won each of their last four games, outscoring opponents 18-6 in that stretch. Those eighteen goals have come from seven different players and vaulted New York into 6th in the league in goals scored with 50. One of those goal scorers is O'Vonte Mullings, who helped engineer New York's latest victory with a brace. The offensive firepower has helped New York clinch a playoff spot and has them positioned at third in the Eastern Conference.
The defensive play from Red Bulls II over this stretch cannot be overlooked as well, as the back line and goalkeepers have continued their impressive performance that has been apparent throughout the entire season. New York currently ranks at fourth in MLS NEXT Pro and first in the Eastern Conference in least goals allowed with 32. That, paired with the 50 goals scored by the attack, helps rank the squad at fifth in the league in goal differential at +19.
Crown Legacy is coming off a hot performance themselves, as they completed a 6-3 victory over Orlando City their last time out. The current league leaders in points, they have positioned themselves for a playoff berth. However, with New York sitting just two spots behind in the standings, the upcoming match can be crucial for Eastern Conference seeding purposes.
In what will be the last road match of the regular season for New York, the squad will be looking to improve on their already impressive 6-3-4 record away from home. It will be a tough task as Crown Legacy have yet to lose in regulation at Mecklenburg County Sportsplex this season, a main reason as to why the side is the top team in the Eastern Conference.
Coverage is available on MLS Season Pass with Apple TV.
