New York Red Bulls II Sign Defender Juan Gutierrez to an MLS NEXT Pro Contract

HARRISON, N.J. - New York Red Bulls II have signed defender Juan Gutierrez to an MLS NEXT Pro contract, the club announced today.

"Juan is a player that has many of the qualities that we look for when deciding to bring in someone new," Sporting Director Denis Hamlett said. "His experience with Red Bull Bragantino in Brazil will allow him to fit right in with what we are building here".

Gutierrez has spent some time with the Red Bull Organization, participating in tournaments for Red Bull Bragantino over the past few years. The 18-year-old was with the U17 side in Brazil but has played most recently with Academia Alemana de Fútbol Popayán.

"We are excited to bring Juan in and see him bring his skills to our back line this season," Head Coach Ibrahim Sekagya said. "He is a player that has a very high ceiling, and we will look to get the most out of him on our squad."

Most of the defender's experience in his young career has been at center back, playing at the position for both Academia Alemana de Fútbol Popayán and the Red Bull Bragantino U17 team. He has started training for Red Bulls II and will join the club for the rest of the MLS NEXT Pro season.
