LAST TWO GAMES

GAME #23: July 22 - Liberty 54, Seattle 91: New York took a one point lead, 3-2, on a Loree Moore three-pointer 41 seconds into the game, and that was the only lead the team would see for the remainder of the contest ... From that point, the Storm went on a 28-5 run to end the first quarter ... Seattle's dominance would continue through the first half, as the Storm took a 50-23 lead into the locker room ... The second half would fare the same for the Liberty, as the team found itself down by as many as 40 points in the fourth quarter on an Edwige Lawson-Wade lay-up ... Between the two teams, all active players saw action in the game ... Erin Thorn was the only Liberty player to reach double figures, as she led the team with 19 points ... Seattle's Iziane Castro Marques led all scorers with a career-high 26 points.

GAME #22- July 20 - - Liberty 62, Sacramento 71: The Liberty ended their four game road trip with a loss to the Monarchs, 62-71...The two teams were evenly matched during the opening minutes of the game led by Shameka Christon who connected on two early field-goals to give the Liberty a 6-4 lead...By the midpoint of the quarter Sacramento was on a 13-0 run that carried them to the end of the quarter with a 22-8 lead...The second quarter was dominated by the Monarchs as they built upon their double-digit lead...Despite the hot-hand of Erin Thorn, who contributed eight points in the quarter, New York could not cut the lead to single digits before the half, 24-38...The Liberty seemed energized as they hit the floor for the second half...Loree Moore came out in the third quarter and put New York on the board early...Moore grabbed four early rebounds that sparked the Liberty defense and helped close the gap between the two teams...Mid-quarter, the Monarchs went on an 11-5 run that took them into the final frame...New York went on a final run led by Thorn's ten points and Iciss Tillis' eight points...The Liberty got to within three points of Sacramento at the 2:53 mark (58-61), but came up short as the Sacramento lead was too much to contend with...Sacramento finished with two players in double figures led by Nicole Powell who recored 13 points (4-8 FGA)...New York had four players finish in double figures: Thorn (20), Tillis (12), Baker and Christon (10).

New York vs. Connecticut

New York will play host to Connecticut for the third of four meetings this season...Connecticut took the first two but the Liberty look to capture their first win against the Sun this season tonight at The Garden ... The game will be broadcast live on MSG Network...The Liberty is currently 4-19 holding the sixth place spot in the Eastern Conference ...Connecticut has a record of 17-6 and is currently in first place in the Eastern Conference.

TEAM NOTES

LEADING THE LEAGUE

Although the team has been struggling this season, Becky Hammon and Loree Moore are both having successful individual seasons...Both players are in fact making their mark in the WNBA, ranking amongst the league's best in several statistical categories...Despite missing the last five games with an ankle injury, Hammon remains the top free throw shooter in the WNBA, with a .957 average ... She is also sixth in the league in assists, averaging 3.8 apg, seventh in minutes (32.8 mpg) and 12th in points (15.4 ppg) ... Hammon's point average and free-throw percentage are the highest in her eight-year career ... Moore is eighth in the WNBA, and first on the Liberty, in steals (1.7 spg) ... She is seventh in the WNBA in assists (3.7 apg) and second on the team ... Although just 5'9", Moore is currently the third highest rebounder on the Liberty with 4.96 boards a game ... She is behind the 6'5" Kelly Schumacher and 6'3" Barb Farris.

They say the best things in life are free, and apparently the Liberty couldn't agree more ... The Liberty is currently the second best free throw shooting team in the WNBA with a .780 average on the season ... Tonight's opponent, the Connecticut, sits atop the free-throw category in the league ... Becky Hammon is having a career year from the line and is the top ranked free throw shooter (.957) in the league...2006 first round draft pick Sherill Baker is currently ranked ninth in free throw shooting ... She boasts an .872 average from the line, the second highest ranked rookie in that category.
