
New Year's Sweep: Wild Climb Standings

WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Wenatchee Wild pulled out theirbrooms and rang in 2012 Saturday by earning a 2-game sweep over the Alaska Avalanche with a 3-2 victory at the Town Toyota Center. Coupled with a loss bythe Fresno Monsters, the win allowed the Wild to move into third place in theWest Division.
The Wild opened scoring with 4:19remaining in the first period on TraceRedmond's (McKinney, Texas) third goal of the season. Entering theoffensive zone down the left wing, Redmond took a high snap shot. Alaskagoaltender Nick Kulmanovsky made the initial save, but the rebound came back toRedmond, who buried his second opportunity. Ben Carey (Centennial, Colo.) and Blake Roubos (Niagara Falls,Ontario) assisted.
Wenatchee doubled its lead 9:10into the second frame when Shawn Pauly(Bellingham, Wash.) lit the lamp on a wraparound. Chris Kerr (Penticton, British Columbia) and Max McHugh (Edgewood, Wash.) assisted. However, the Avs got backinto the contest when Wehebe Darge scored on a backhander with 1:56 remainingbefore the second intermission. Brandon Brossoit was credited with the loneassist.
The Wild regained a 2-goal lead,3-1, when Blake Roubos (NiagaraFalls, Ontario) scored from the inside corner of the far faceoff circle duringa man-advantage. Carey and Dylan Abood(Centennial, Colo.) picked up the assists.
With an extra attacker on theice, Alaska cut Wenatchee's lead in half when Evan Janssen redirected a shotinto the cage with 65 seconds remaining in regulation. Chris Buchanan and Joe Schmitzassisted.
Roubos led the Wild with a goaland an assist while Carey recorded two helpers.
Greg Lewis stopped 25 of the 27shots he faced to earn his sixth win of the 2011-12 season. Kulmanovsky made 16saves on 19 shots. Wenatchee scored one power play goal on six opportunitieswhile Alaska went 0-for-6.
The Wild (16-9-4) will travel toFresno, Calif., next weekend (Jan. 6-7) for a 2-game series against theMonsters. Both games will begin at 7:35 p.m.
