New Orleans VooDoo News Release
⢠VooDoo MOVE UP TO FOURTH IN WEEKLY POLL: Following an impressive playoff-clinching 44-40 victory over the Georgia Force last weekend, the VooDoo's 10-4 record has impressed the Arena Football League Writers Association enough to have them ranked at #4 in the weekly writers poll, moving up a spot from last week. The weekly poll, which is based on a vote of AFLWA members, ranks the top eight teams in the AFL. The AFLWA is a national organization made up of media members who cover the AFL. New Orleans received 111 votes, including three first place votes. This week's opponent, the Tampa Bay Storm is ranked eighth in the poll.
⢠VooDoo HAVE A CHANCE TO CLINCH HOME PLAYOFF GAME ON SUNDAY: The VooDoo will have an opportunity to be guaranteed to host at least one playoff game with a victory over the Tampa Bay Storm this Sunday, combined with a loss by either by the Chicago Rush, Colorado Crush or San Jose SaberCats. The first round of the Arena Bowl XVIII playoffs will begin on the weekend of June 5-6.
⢠VooDoo MILESTONES: The following individual marks could be set by VooDoo players this Saturday vs. the Georgia Force:
OS Aaron Bailey needs 3 receptions to exceed his career-high of 89 set in 2002 with the Carolina Cobras
OL/DL B.J. Cohen needs one touchdown reception for 10 in his career
QB John Fitzgerald needs 56 passing yards to reach 3000 and 12 completions for 250.
FB/LB Dan Curran needs five rushing touchdowns to reach 26 and tie the Arena Football League mark of 26 set by Bernard Hall of the St. Louis Stampede.
OL/DL Tim Martin needs one reception to tie his career-high total of five in 2003 with the Dallas Desperados. Martin has already set a career high with two TD receptions.
WR/LB Lamont Moore needs three receptions to reach the 50-reception mark in a season when he has set career-highs with 47 receptions for 465 yards with two touchdowns as the secondary offensive threat to Aaron Bailey.
⢠VooDoo ON THE AIRWAVES: VooDoo and AFL fans will enjoy plenty of chances to watch the newest team in New Orleans both live and on various on radio and television programs throughout the 2004 season.
Every VooDoo game will be broadcast on WWL 870-AM or WSMB 1350-AM. The Voice of the VooDoo, Chris Kenyon, will handle play-by-play. Selected Saints coaches, players and front office personnel will serve as color analysts. Saints safety Steve Gleason will handle color for the Tampa Bay Storm match up. Sunday's game will be broadcast on WSMB. WWL will broadcast The Mike Neu Show with VooDoo Head Coach Mike Neu each Tuesday from 9-10 pm as Kenyon and WWL's Kenny Wilkerson co-host. Fans can call into the show or submit questions for Coach Neu through the club's official web site, GoVooDoo.com.
Up to nine of the VooDoo's 16 regular season games are scheduled to be telecast by NBC (WDSU-TV 6 in New Orleans). This Sunday's contest amongst New Orleans and the Tampa Bay Storm will be broadcast on NBC. Bob Papa will handle the play by play, Ray Bentley will serve as color analyst and J.P. Peterson will handle sideline reporting duties. Cox will air Inside VooDoo with Mike Neu, a 30-minute show, each week. Inside VooDoo with Mike Neu will air this week on Thursday, May 20 from 5:30-6 pm and will be replayed on Saturday, May 23 at 10:30 am.
